Accessibility in the Museum with Patricia Carl and Stefanie Wiens
Before, during and afterwards: the possible barriers of a museum visit are not limited to marvelling at the works of art. Stefanie Wiens and Patricia Carl from the association gradually identify those barriers that a person with disabilities intending to visit a museum may encounter. On the one hand there is the planning and the journey to and from the museum, on the other hand there is the visit itself. The goal is to enable visitors to visit a museum on an equal footing. How can we get there? This much can be said right away: A lot can be achieved with little effort and a small budget.

Meet our experts
Stefanie Wiens is the initiator of <Platz da!>. On the one hand, she conducts theoretical research on the topic of “inclusive museums” and on the other hand, she implements inclusion in practice. Passing on her art education scholarship to artists with “disabilities” was influential for her work. Together with the latter, she now advises (cultural) institutions as part of a steadily growing inclusive team.
Patricia Carl, who is of small stature, works in the Ministry of Development and is the honorary head of the German Association of People of Small Stature and their Families (BKMF). She has been with <Platz da!> from it’s very beginning as she has always loved art and thinks that art houses and museums should be allowed to learn that being at eye level means a different thing to everyone.
